The YWCA of Houston Meals on Wheels Program would like to enthusiastically encourage you to support our 2019 Older American Month (OAM) Celebration. It is becoming more apparent that remaining socially engaged can improve the quality of life for older adults. Across the country, older Americans – a rapidly growing population – are taking part in activities that promote wellness and social connection. They are sharing their wisdom and experience with future generations, and they are giving back to make enrich their communities. They are working and volunteering, mentoring and learning, leading and engaging.
This is a personal invitation to your organization to join us Friday, May 24, 2019 from 8:30am -2:00pm the YWCA Houston would like to invite you to participate.
Thanksgiving Morning, November 28, 2019, volunteers are asked to arrive at the YWCA HOUSTON, 6309 Martin Luther King Blvd, Houston, TX 77021 at 8:30 AM to attend a welcome orientation. After the welcome orientation, each volunteer(s) will receive 4-6 meals, teams of 4 or more will receive 10-20 along with routes and delivery information. Routes are developed to ensure completion by 1:00 PM, allowing time for volunteers to return home to enjoy their own Thanksgiving dinner. All volunteers are require to have (2) medium or large insulted coolers and/or carrying bags. We recommend each volunteer purchase these bags at HEB; they are red and can be used repeatedly. We do not supply these bags or any coolers; therefore if volunteers show up without them we cannot guarantee the full joyful experience of helping serve a much need senior on Thanksgiving Morning.
We also need volunteers for the following area for that morning;
- Registration/ Route Handlers
- Parking Attendants
We serve (1500+) seniors per day and each year we like to strive to provide each senior with a small token for the Christmas Season, as most of them are alone all throughout the year. Therefore, we challenge you to get your company, family, friends, social groups, your children’s school, and their social groups, to come out and help us put a smile on a senior’s face and some love back in their lives by reminding them they are not alone during this time of the year. So when you Black Friday shop think of a senior(s) and what it will mean to them to know someone thought of them.
