To address the lack of recognition and opportunities for girls and women as leaders, The Young Women’s Leadership Council was created and spearheaded by the YWCA of Houston Board of Directors. The YWCA of Houston Board of Directors recognizes that it is essential for girls to have experiences that help them discover the power of their capacity for formal and informal leadership. The experiences also need to develop girls’ awareness of and responsible engagement in their community. Further, it is critical that girls take this journey of discovery with women in their communities and participate in meaningful opportunities to effect lasting change through community action. The YWCA of Houston Board of Directors are committed to providing participants with an interactive and engaging experience that will empower them to become the next generation of leaders in our schools and community. This is a unique opportunity for high school girls (14-18 years old) from diverse backgrounds across the Houston area to participate in a service-learning and leadership development program. Participants will act as YWCA ambassadors and leaders for youth service throughout the Houston area. ![]() ![]()
